I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving day, filled with family and friends!
Today brings us to Psalm 115 in our reading. It is going by fast! I thought this Psalm was interesting in that it is talking about the futility of idols and the trustworthiness of God. How the idols cannot see or hear or help you--yet our God can! I choose verse 8 to record in my Bible notebook:
"Those who make them are like them; So is everyone who trusts in them." Psalm 115:8
Do we want to be like an idol--who has a mouth but does not speak, has eyes but do not see--who has ears but do not hear--who have noses but do not smell, hands but do not handle, feet but do not walk? I don't think so! And yet--what ARE we looking at? My Study Bible had this note in it, which is a good reminder for all of us!
"It is a law of the human mind that by beholding we become changed. Man will rise no higher than his conceptions of truth, purity, and holiness. If the mind is never exalted above the level of humanity, if it is not uplifted by faith to contemplate infinite wisdom and love, the man will be constantly sinking lower and lower."

Reminds me of this verse:
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord." 2 Corinthians 3:18
And one of my favorites--which I have tried to take as a motto for my life:
"Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things." Philippians 4:8
So spend some time contemplating your great God today--His goodness, His mercy, His compassion, His forgiveness--and as you look at Him--you will become changed more and more like Him!
