Today brings us to Psalm 96. I tried, but I couldn't choose just one verse. But there was one special section that really spoke to my heart:
"Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; Let the sea roar, and all its fullness; Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it. Then all the trees of the woods will rejoice before the LORD. For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with righteousness, And the peoples with His truth."
Psalm 96:11-13
I like the truth that these verses bring out. I like to try and analyze to see what is really being said in a Bible passage. Oftentimes we are in too much of a hurry and just read quickly through. But if you stop and really think about it, you will gain so much more.
The first part there is saying to let the heavens rejoice and to let the earth be glad. Then it names some specific parts of the earth--the sea is going to roar--not because of being angry, not as a frightening thing, but as a way of being glad and rejoicing. The fields are going to be joyful.
The very trees in the woods will be rejoicing. And now we come to the really important part--the "Why?" The whole reason why the heavens and the earth an everything in the earth is going to be so glad and rejoicing is clearly stated. It is because our God is coming. It is because He is coming to judge the earth. And He will judge with truth and righteousness.
I truly feel sorry for people who have been raised to be afraid of God. Who look at Him with terror, as someone who is "out to get them" and just waiting for them to mess up so He can cream them good. This is such a lie by our enemy. The very one who hated God so much that he choose to leave heaven--who tries to do everything he can to hurt God, and knows that there is no deeper hurt than to harm God's children--he is the one who is the father of lies and wants us to believe that God does not love us. Yes--all of us have sinned. But He has washed away our sins, if we will only let Him.
Commit your life--dirty and broken as it is--to Him today, and ask Him to wash away all your filthy sin. He has promised that he who comes to Him He will in no wise cast out. And then, instead of looking at His coming with fear, you will look to it with joy--just like the earth!
